In the year 1999 during the tenure of Fr. Eufemiano Miranda, the ministry of the Eucharistic Ministers was instituted in the Holy Family Chapel at Porvorim.

The primary responsibility of the Eucharistic Ministers is to distribute Holy Communion to the faithful. They are also called upon to usher and assist/co-ordinate the Church services as and when required, especially on important liturgical days and occasions in the parish such as novenas and feasts, Holy Week and Christmas celebrations. Before major church celebrations, the Parish Priest calls the Eucharistic Ministers for a meeting, to chalk out the strategy of ushering in the faithful and distributing Holy Communion.
